I read a pretty good Richard Bausch story today: "Fatality." Highly reminiscent of the movie In the Bedroom, which of course was based on an Andre Dubus story. The circumstances are different, involving not loving parents whose son has been murdered and who find themselves helpless to avenge his murder, but parents estranged from their daughter who find themselves helpless to save her from an abusive husband. In both stories, a parent is faced with doing the unthinkable. Very gripping story that made me late for work, but one of those where you couldn't help but wonder if two writers simply came up with the same basic plot or one got the idea from the other.
