Whenever I'm tempted to announce that V.S. Pritchett is something of a role model, a more realistic and snarling side of my personality pipes up and says "Since when, asshole?" Since reading his criticism, actually, which is fantastically precise and never overstays its welcome. I have this big clunky volume of it that I don't read enough.
