What rocks, mostly

A Decade Under the Influence, yet another documentary about why 1970s cinema changed everything. By now I've heard the story four million times, and because I lived through the decade and saw all the movies and followed all the careers and because my boyhood idols were named Altman and Scorsese and Bogdanovich and Coppola -- well, it's all a bit like living in the past, as it is for the interview subjects. Two memorable (if not surprising) points from the three-plus enjoyable hours: Altman doesn't give a shit about plot and regards film as an instinctive art, like painting, and Coppola has not completed an original script since The Conversation, and according to him, maybe never will.
