Late afternoon exit polls give him Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, and New Mexico. That's 89 votes -- assuming he wins them all.

As it stands right now, Kerry has 189 electoral votes from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Connecticut, Vermont, Pennslyvannia, New Hampshire and California.

Together, that's 278 electoral votes, eight more than needed to win.
