Someone explain this. The Moscow Times is going on and on about this "new" translation of Gogol's Dead Souls by the tag-team of Pevear and Volokhonsky. It's not new at all. I read the Vintage paperback eight years ago -- around this time, too, because I got it for Christmas. Winter is a good time for Gogol. I read the Guerney version (Nabokov's preference) a few years ago at this time.
