Samson and Roseanne?
Click here and tell me if you don't think this is, possibly, the strangest representation of a Bible story ever. Isn't Delilah supposed to be a hottie? A knockout? A luscious temptress with stripper tits, skinny legs and all? Instead, Jan Lievens (1607-1674) sees her as a domineering old biddy with a double-chin, a painful hairstyle and a big baggy dress intended to hide years of doughnuts, buffet bars and leftover takeout. Samson loves her, and at this stage, he isn't even blind, although he may as well be. Look at the hand she holds up; it's not even a woman's hand. Rather, it's a near-perfect left match to the right hand held up by her goofy-looking accomplice. What in the world is going on here?
