Mark Sanford's Statement on His Impending Divorce: The First Draft

While I would have preferred "censure" over impeachment, so to speak, it is not the course I would have hoped for, or would choose, I am beside myself with glee that someone has chosen it for me I want to take full responsibility for the moral failure that led us to this tragic point (and by moral failure, I do not mean trying to strip hundreds of thousands of losers of their Unemployment Insurance benefits). Jenny may look more like Ayn Rand than, say, Selma Hayek, but she is a great person, and has been a remarkable wife, mother and First Lady. She has been more than gracious ever since she got her first taste of fame these last six months than she has ever been in all the time I've known her, and gone above and beyond in her patience and commitment to put the needs of others in front of her own although it obviously didn't stop her from writing a book. While our family structure will soon take on a distinctly Latin American flavor may change, I know that we will both work earnestly to be the best mom and dad we can be to four of the finest boys on earth even if they do kind of get in my way on Father's Day.

“I will join with her in asking the press to respect our shared desire for privacy as I quietly move to Argentina we quietly move forward. We respectively ask for your prayers.”
